Weekly Reviews of TV Shows & more – Active since September 1st, 2012
Guess what a nerdy writer did exactly one year ago? He started a little blog called A Young Samaritan and today it’s the 1-year anniversary so hurray! How should I celebrate?
First of all, I had a pretty sweet summer which was mostly because of San Diego Comic-Con – which I will write about in a few days – and I hope all of you had a great summer as well. I had to take a break from TV reviewing this summer around the time when season 3 of Teen Wolf kicked off because I had some complications in my personal life and while I still have some of them (still unemployed and still have some health problems), they aren’t as bad as they were back in May.
Eventually I will review season 3A – aka what the first part of this season is called – of Teen Wolf before we reach the end of September because season 3A has been amazing so of course I will give my thoughts about it! When season 3B returns on January 6, 2014 on MTV; I will be reviewing the show again on a weekly basis for sure.
Since it has been a year since I started the blog, I felt it was time for a change so after going through over the 200 themes that WordPress has available which took me a couple of weeks, I decided to pick the Suburbia theme.
I also wanted to find a way to convey that this is mostly a TV blog because I will from time to time write posts that has to do with comic books, movies or opinions about certain subjects, so thanks to my friend Lauren who was kind enough to help me put together this amazing background featuring title cards of several shows that I will review in different ways.
With that said, this is also a great segment to inform you guys what I’m up to when it comes to reviewing because this fall it will be a bit different from last year. To begin with and as you probably have realized by now, I will be reviewing more shows than just three or four which I did last year so expect to see at least one new review every day.
I would like to ask for a favor that I hope you can do for me and my future posts: because I want to grow as a writer as much as possible, I would really appreciate it if you occasionally leave a little comment on any of my posts whether it’s a review about the latest episode of Arrow or if it’s an opinion article regarding a big casting news for perhaps a superhero movie. I want to hear your thoughts about the subjects but I also want to hear what you think of my writing because I want to know what I can do to improve myself as a writer as writing is my passion.
Believe it or not, I’m actually going to be grateful if you leave a comment that perhaps says “Man, you have so many spelling mistakes in this post” because then I can try to avoid doing those mistakes in future posts. It actually makes me happier to get comments whether they are positive or negative rather than having no comments because since I started my blog, I haven’t had a lot of comments on my posts so once again, if you can leave a comment once in a while, you are really doing me a huge favor!
I’m sure you have seen the majority of the trailers for both new and old shows for the 2013-2014 season but if you haven’t, I made a little YouTube playlist that features most of the shows that I will personally watching.
People may think that writing on my blog is an enough dosage for me but the truth is that it’s actually not enough for me so here are some of the things that I will be doing over at other sites.
Back in June, I became a staff writer for the comic book website Comicosity which covers comic books from a lot of different comic book companies such as DC Comics, Marvel and more. I’m currently reviewing Arrow the digital series as well as Bryan Q. Miller’s Smallville Season 11 and hopefully I will start reviewing other books as well but for now, it’s just those two so if you are interested, go ahead and check them out!
As I mentioned in my trailer review for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., I’m going to be hosting a new podcast called Helicarrier: The S.H.I.E.L.D. Podcast that is an ATA/Comic Book Therapy Production as I will be joined by my new friend Chris Doucher who is the co-owner of CBT.
We will be covering the show together so if you are interested in learning more about him, what was revealed about the show at Comic-Con and more: just press play on the player below, enjoy and make sure to follow the podcast on Twitter as well as the podcast’s page at ATA.

In other podcast related news: I will still be doing a few sections on the regular podcast such as Arrow, Glee, Once Upon a Time, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, The Following and a few more so what I will do is post a little player at some point every week when the latest episode is out.
With some of those shows, I may post a small review the day after they have aired but for shows like Arrow and Glee, I will still do my full reviews here.
Now focusing on A.Y.S.; as I mentioned earlier, I will review more shows this year because I have increased the number of shows on my list with shows that are about to debut and shows that have been on for a few years. While I can’t say yet where it will be – hey, it’s always fun with surprises right? -, I can say that two of the shows that are featured in my background on this website will be reviewed by me on another website.
What I will do is share a link to that review in a small post here on this website so you can head over there to check out what I had to say about the latest episodes of those shows. I may or may not have another project in the works for one or two of these shows but you may find out soon so stay tuned…or something like that.
Despite the number of shows that I will cover, I may even post multiple reviews on the same day if they both aired the night before so for example, I may post an Almost Human and Teen Wolf review on the same Tuesday but at different times of the day to give some space.
I’m still working on how the layout will be for each review because I always like to experiment and try new ways to do a review or an opinion article so hopefully by the time the TV season has officially kicked off, the posts will look a bit different than the way I did last year.
To wrap this up: I’m glad that I have been able to run this blog for a year, I’m looking forward to start writing again as well as sharing other work that I will be doing, so…happy 1-year anniversary to A Young Samaritan!
